Update on Steve: December 14, 2023

light in the darkness

Hi everyone,

This update stings more for us than the others so far. We’ve learned the mass in Steve’s lung is unchanged and the one in his back has doubled in size. Not the news we have been hoping for.

The UCLA sarcoma doctor recommended discontinuing chemo because there hasn’t been progress with the tumors. In addition, Steve has fluid in his lungs and a new malignant spot in his pelvic area. Plus the recurring fevers. We are changing course…

We will go to UCLA every three weeks for Steve to be in a clinical trial of targeted immunotherapy. We have an appt next Tuesday morning for Steve to sign papers and be screened for acceptance into the trial. Ryan and Abby will be here and the four of us will drive down on Monday.

To me it feels like a hail Mary but we are willing to try. Even Hail Marys are full of grace. Thank you for your love and prayers. We are trusting in the healing presence of God surrounding us as we press on. ❤️✨

ps. Janice’s mouth and lip is slowly healing. She had successful oral surgery and a plastic surgeon removed more of the sutures that were causing significant pain. She’s getting back to health and looks forward to exercising again and being pain-free.

Prayer points:

  • A renewal of energy, appetite and strength for Steve as he gains distance from the effects of chemo.

  • That the immunotherapy will be a game-changer, bringing complete healing and the eradication of the cancer cells.
